The Companies (Amendment) Bill, 2017

The Indian Institute of Management Bill 2017.

 

The Bill, as passed by Lok Sabha, was laid on the Table of the Rajya Sabha on 31st July, 2017.

 

To declare the existing Twenty Indian Institutes of Management (IIM)  to be Institutions of National Importance through  a Central Legislation so as to confer them statutory status and award competence to award degrees to students who passed out from IIMs.

The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Amendment) Bill, 2017

The Bill, as passed by Lok Sabha, was laid on the Table of the Rajya Sabha on 3rd August, 2017.

 

(a)     To transfer the 0.4 percent shares of RBI in NABARD to the Government of India.

(b)     To increase the authorised capital of NABARD.

(c)     To enable development of new credit products, new credit linkage and new clients.

To harmonize the exiting conflict between the provisions of sub section (3) and sub-section (4) of section 20A of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958 as amended in the year 2010;  to pave the way to carry out certain construction limited strictly to public works and projects essential to public within prohibited area of centrally protected monument by any Department or Office of Central Government.

The Requisitioning and Acquisition of Immovable Property (Amendment) Bill, 2017

Introduced in Lok Sabha on 18.07.2017.

 

To ensure (i) payment of compensation to the land owners as on the original date of publication notice of acquisition (Form J) that has been challenged and quashed by the Courts, (ii) payment of interest at the prevailing rate of interest payable by the State Bank of India on domestic fixed deposits, from the original date of notification till the date of payment of compensation to compensate for appreciation in the market value of the land, and (iii) property is acquired only for national security and defence purpose.

5.       

The Central Road Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2017

The Bill was introduced in Lok Sabha on 10.08.2017. The Motion for reference of the Bill to the Joint Committee of the Houses was adopted by Lok Sabha on 10.08.2017 and concurred by Rajya Sabha on 11.08.2017 with instructions to report by the last day of the first week of next Session. 

 

To establish a framework to carry out the resolution of certain categories of financial service providers in distress, to provide deposit insurance to consumers of certain categories of financial services and for designation of Systemically Important Financial Institutions by the Central Government for resolution; the above legal framework will enable to establish a corporation with the objective of protecting consumers of covered service providers and public funds to the extent possible thereby contributing to the stability and salience of the financial system and matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

To insert a new article 338 so as to constitute the National Commission for Backward Classes which shall consist of a Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson and three other Members also to insert another new article 342A so as to provide that the President may, by public notification, specify the socially and educationally backward classes which shall for the purposes of the Constitution be deemed to be socially and educationally backward classes.
