The Wakf (Amendment) Bill, 2010, as passed by Lok Sabha

Introduced in Lok Sabha on 24.4.2010

 

The Bill as passed by Lok Sabha was referred to a Select Committee of Rajya Sabha on 31.8.2010.

 

To amend certain provisions of the Wakf Act, 1995, so that Wakf property is not easily alienated, to strengthen Central Wakf Council and to better manage Wakf properties.

The National Commission for Heritage Sites Bill, 2009.

The Report of the Department-related Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture presented on 23.11.2009.

 

To provide for an institutional mechanism that will take a holistic view of protection and preservation of heritage sites in the broadest possible conceptual framework and provide for a uniform legislative framework and practices in the country.

The National Council for Teacher Education (Amendment) Bill, 2010

The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Amendment) Bill, 2010

The Report of the Department-related Standing Committee on Human Resource Development presented on 30.7.2010.

 

To provide for:-

(a)                 specific inclusion of “Child with disability” in the definition regarding “Child belonging to disadvantaged group” and enlarge the scope of disabilities.

(b)                 amendment of provisions regarding School Management Committees in respect of “Aided Minority schools”.

(ii)                 To ensure timely conduct of elections, General body meetings and audit of cooperative societies; and

(ii) To professionalize the management of    these institutions.

The Bill was referred to the Department-related Standing Committee on Home Affairs on 21.08.2010.

 

To amend certain provisions of the New Delhi Municipal Council Act, 1994.

The Arms (Amendment) Bill, 2010

Introduced on 25.8.2010.

 

The Bill was referred to the Standing Committee on Home Affairs on 03.09.2010.

 

To delete proviso to section 13 of the Arms Act, 1959.

The Biotechnology Regulatory Authority of India Bill, 2010.

To establish Biotechnology Regulatory Authority of India to regulate research, import, transport, use of organism and product produced from modern biotechnology.

To widen the scope of the Act, amplify the provisions of the Act, facilitate quicker disposal of consumer complaints, rationalize the qualifications and procedure and selection of President and Members of the Consumer fora.

The Bureau of Indian Standard (Amendment) Bill, 2010.

To empower the Government to bring any article and/or process which it consider necessary from the point of view of public health and safety under mandatory certification, protect industries and consumers from spurious and sub-standard import by facilitating self declaration of conformance of certain identified articles to the relevant Indian standard and prevent exploitation of consumers by un-scrupulous jewellers by improving the purity of jewellery articles in the domestic market.
